How to save all your open tabs (and get them back later)

Updated 2026-10-13

Too many tabs open, and you are not done with any of them? You can save every open tab and close the window without losing your place. There are two ways to do it: one is already built into your browser, and one keeps the tabs organized and searchable afterwards.

The built-in way: bookmark all tabs

Every major browser can bookmark a whole window at once:

This works, but bookmark folders pile up fast, they are hard to search by project, and reopening them is all or nothing.

With Tabulary: save the window in one click

Tabulary is a free tab manager for Chrome, Edge, Brave and Firefox. It saves tabs as links, so the pages do not keep running, and keeps them in boards and collections you can search.

Tabulary’s library with boards, collections and saved tabs.
  1. Install Tabulary and pin it to the toolbar (the puzzle-piece Extensions menu, then the pin).
  2. Click the Tabulary button, or press Alt+Shift+T.
  3. Press Save all tabs. Every tab in the window goes to the collection shown as the destination; click it to pick another collection or create one.
  4. Leave Close tabs after saving on to clear the window, or turn it off to keep the tabs open.

From a new tab, Save open tabs in the library toolbar does the same with a choice of board and collection. To save only some tabs, open the popup’s Open tabs section, tick the ones you want and press Save.

Save a session you can restore later

If you want a snapshot of exactly what was open — for a project, a trip or a research afternoon — use Sessions. In the popup or side panel, choose Save this window, name it, and save. Nothing is closed. When you come back, Restore opens only the tabs that are not already open, to avoid reopening matching URLs. Turn Sessions on in Settings → Features.

Find a saved tab again

Start typing in the popup, the side panel or the library and matching saved tabs appear instantly. You can also type tt and a space in the address bar to search your saved tabs from there.

Where the tabs are kept

On your device, in your browser. Tabulary needs no account. If you want a backup or the same library on another computer, you can sign in with Google and it keeps a copy in a hidden folder of your own Google Drive. See the privacy policy.

Troubleshooting

Save did not capture a page? Browser-internal pages cannot be saved like normal websites. Check your selected window and destination collection. If a shortcut conflicts, use the toolbar button. Keep Close tabs after saving off until you have checked a saved link.

Questions

How do I save all tabs in Chrome at once?
Press Ctrl+Shift+D (⌘+Shift+D on Mac) to bookmark every tab in the window, or use a tab manager such as Tabulary and press Save all tabs in its toolbar popup.

Do saved tabs slow down my browser?
No. A saved tab is a link, not an open page, so it does not keep the page running. Closing tabs you have saved frees memory straight away.

Can I restore the tabs later?
Yes. Open a collection and choose Open all, or save the window as a Session and press Restore, which opens only the tabs that are not already open.

Is Tabulary free?
Yes, all of it. No account, no tiers, no limits on how much you keep, and no ads.
